Do you think mountain bike suspension setup is a dark art that requires guesswork and luck? SussMyBike was formed to smash this problem and increase the fun and flow on your ride. We believe that riders deserve the most from their bikes and our device will improve control, refine response and increase comfort making your next ride unforgettable!

“We went for 3D SLS printing as a tactical solution to turn around an improved design quickly without all the setup costs of injection moulding. What convinced us was the speedy turnaround from 3DPRINTUK along with the accuracy of the output which was far better than we had been able to achieve with other suppliers and also at a reasonable cost.”

Overview

Alan mason, founder of SussMyBike discovered his idea from his own experiences as a mountain biker. With 20 years of riding and thousands of pounds spent on equipment Alan had a nagging doubt about whether he was getting the most out of his bikes and always felt that the suspension might not be working as well as it could. Recommended settings provide a starting point on a static bike but they don’t factor in riding style or the type of trail. Alan knew that if he could measure the performance on the trail he could ride in peace knowing that his performance wasn’t being held back by poor tuning.

The solution was to build a small data logger that measured what my suspension was doing on my ride. This allowed me to see precisely how the suspension had been performing dynamically on the trail. By analysing the data Alan was able to understand and see how his riding and trail style impacted the setup. With this knowledge Alan was able to tune the sag, compression and rebound to fit his style perfectly allowing him to finally ride in peace knowing he’s getting the most from my bike.

In July 2014 I set out to make this a viable solution for the public knowing that there are millions of people out there who could benefit from properly setup suspension. With help from Edinburgh and Napier Universities, the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland and the Entrepreneurial Spark business accelerator I formed a team which ran a successful crowdfunding campaign. This raised the cash required to develop and build the unit. As we near the final stages of design and manufacture we are getting hugely excited knowing that poor suspension setups will soon be a thing of the past!
