When Appearance Isn’t Enough, Performance Matters

3D printed parts are used in demanding, real‑world environments where durability, chemical resistance, and long‑term aesthetics matter. That’s why 3DPRINTUK now offers Cerakote® as a premium finishing option for selected 3D printed components.
Cerakote® is a thin‑film ceramic coating used across aerospace, motorsport, medical, marine, defence and high‑performance manufacturing. It delivers exceptional durability and protection without compromising dimensional accuracy - making it ideal for advanced 3D printed parts.
What Is Cerakote®?
Cerakote® is a ceramic‑polymer coating that provides a unique combination of:
• Extreme wear resistance
• Excellent corrosion protection
• High chemical and solvent resistance
• Thermal stability
• Ultra‑thin application (typically 15–30 microns)
Unlike traditional paints or powder coats, Cerakote bonds at a molecular level, creating a finish that is both decorative and functional.

Appearance and Finish of Colour Dyeing
Explore the versatility of dyeing 3D printed parts with our range of materials, including SLS and MJF, to achieve vibrant, durable, and customised finishes for all your projects.

How 3D Colour Dyeing Works
After the parts have been cleaned, they are loaded into the Dyemansions DM60 deep dye systems in a basket. The lid is then closed and sealed. The parts are then dyed inside the machine under high pressure and temperature. This high pressure and temperate allows for the dye to penetrate deeper than systems that simply bathe the parts in a dyed. This allows for greater longevity and vibrance to the colour.
Once the cycle has completed, the dye is evacuated and the parts washed inside the machine. The parts are then removed and rapidly dried in an external dryer to reduce the risk of marks and residue spoilage.

Risks of Colour Dyeing 3D Printed Parts
Colour Matching
A perfect colour match can be hard to achieve. Expect some light variation in the intensity of the colour.

Warping
Very flat profiles that are naturally susceptible to warping can warp more in the during process.

Polished parts
Colour dye results from polished parts tend to be slightly more faded than natural colours.

Mixing finishes
Mixing finishes can lead to different visual appearances for the parts – it is recommended to keep all parts the same finish where possible.

Food Safety
Unfortunately, dyed parts are not certified as food safe. If you need food safe parts, undyed SLS PA12 (PA2200) is in its natural and polished finishes.
